Importrix: Turn Any PDF into Fully Editable Figma Layers
Most PDF-to-Figma plugins drop a flat image into your canvas and call it a day. Importrix — a free Figma plugin from the PDFTriX team — rebuilds the PDF as native Figma layers you can actually edit.
The Problem with Existing PDF-to-Figma Tools
You receive a PDF from a client and need to redesign it. Or you want to start a new layout from an existing brochure. Either way, the workflow today is painful:
- Most plugins import a screenshot. You get a single image layer per page. You can't edit text, swap colors, or move elements.
- Manual rebuilds take hours.Re-typing every block of copy, re-drawing every shape, re-placing every image — it's soul crushing.
- Fonts get lost. Even when text comes in editable, font mapping is wrong and kerning falls apart.
What Importrix Does
Importrix parses the PDF structure directly — not the rendered pixels — and recreates each element as a native Figma layer. The result is a fully editable file that looks like the original but behaves like a Figma design you authored from scratch.
- Real text layers.Every paragraph, heading, and label comes in as a Figma text node with the right font, size, weight, and color — ready to edit.
- Vector shapes preserved. Rectangles, paths, and strokes stay as Figma vectors, not raster images. Round a corner, change a fill, scale freely.
- Images extracted and placed. Embedded images come out as separate Figma image fills you can swap or replace.
- Page-by-page import. Each PDF page becomes its own Figma frame, automatically positioned in a grid.
- Layer hierarchy. Elements are grouped by their visual relationship so the layer tree stays readable.
How to Use Importrix
- Open the plugin page on Figma Community: Importrix on Figma Community.
- Click Try it out to install it into your Figma workspace.
- Open any Figma file and run Plugins → Importrix.
- Drop your PDF into the plugin window or pick it from your computer.
- Wait a few seconds while Importrix parses the file. Each page appears as a fully editable Figma frame.
- Edit anything you want — text, colors, layout, images.
Real Use Cases
- Redesigning a client brochure. Pull the existing PDF in, keep the copy, restyle the layout.
- Localizing print collateral. Translate the text without recreating the entire design.
- Refreshing legacy decks. Bring an old PDF presentation into Figma and modernize it.
- Auditing competitor materials.Take apart a competitor's PDF to understand its structure layer by layer.
- Building templates from existing files. Start a new template from any reference PDF in seconds.
Built by the PDFTriX Team
Importrix is the second of two Figma plugins we ship as derivative products of PDFTriX. The PDF parsing engine is the same one that powers our online PDF editor, our conversion tools, and our form extraction pipeline — the part of the stack we've spent the most engineering effort on.
If you want to go the other direction and export print-ready PDFs out of Figma, check out our companion plugin Printrix.
